Surprising recent Walleye trawl results.
Just got off the phone to My Close buddy and the head Saginaw Bay DNR Biologist Dave Fielder. According to him and the recent fall Trawl sample/results of the young of the year walleye captured. Those results represent the second largest ever for the Saginaw Bay/lower Lake Huron waters. He/himself had predicted a fall in those numbers in this cycle, so he is both surprised and happy about those results. We also discussed the Michigan House Bill that remains temporally in Limbo concerning the Commercial fisheries bill to allow them to add walleye to their catch quotas. Our biggest enemy for stopping this repeat of a fishery collapse bad idea, is the law makers making the final decisions have probably never fished or even kept a fish in an aquarium all their lives. It's hard enough to sustain even the basic economic lifestyle these days that supports the increased cost involved in the hunting and fishing sports hobby, let alone having it raped and totally destroyed again because of commercial greed, like it was through the 40/50's.
Not everyone will agree with, understand you, like you, appreciate your character, personality or politics. Not even a few benefiting from your knowledge and/or generosity. But stay true to your beliefs and convictions.
Captain Dan!
You are 100% correct about our walleye fishery destroyed again if the Michigan House Bill 5105 that is still temporally in Limbo concerning the fisheries to allow them to add walleye to their catch quotas because of commercial greed.
