Hi Everyone,
The Tuesday August 7, 2018 Lake Huron Citizens Fishery Advisory Committee meeting date is less than a month away so I wanted to send out a reminder. Randy and I have nearly completed the agenda and below are topics that will be discussed.
The 2017 walleye creel and survey data, including the harvest during the winter fishery for Saginaw Bay, has been completed. There will be a discussion of this information and the Committee will be asked to provide a recommendation on the walleye regulations for 2019 in Saginaw Bay. This will allow enough time for the Fisheries Division to complete the rule change process if needed and allow any potential changes to be published in the 2019 Fishing Guide.
The Atlantic Salmon return this year has been very good and there is interest from the managers to continue the discussion of the next steps as the Program moves forward.
As many of you know, there has been opposition by two First Nations Tribes to treating the Sea Lamprey larvae during 2018 in the Mississagi and Garden Rivers that flow into the North Channel of Lake Huron. Discussions are continuing but it is not certain if the rivers will be treated this year. An update will be provided along with an overview of a new report that shows if the rivers are not treated the number of Sea Lamprey spawners in Lake Huron will increase significantly.
There will be a status report on the action taken with the lake trout overharvest during 2016 and 2017 in MH-1 from Rogers City to Drummond Island.
There will be a brainstorming session by all on how to improve the presentations and minutes so the information is easier to share with others that do not attend the meetings.
There will be brief updates on the cormorant issue and the Subcommittee. Managers and Law Enforcement will also provide updates.
The meeting will be held at Jay’s Sporting Goods in Clare and it will begin at 10 am and be completed by 3 pm.
Frank
