Winnepesaug Creeks | Downstream Boundary: Confluence with the Pere Marquette
River) (Mason County)
• Prairie Creek
• Rogue River
• Whitefish River (Delta, Alger, and Marquette Counties)
• White River – North Branch
Establish a daily possession limit of zero (“0”) for naturalized (“wild”) steelhead, which are
defined as fish that have an adipose fin intact and not clipped for management purposes to
identify hatchery fish, year-round, on the following rivers and sections:
• Pere Marquette River
Other Actions:
• Establish an effective date immediately after approval

For me it's way more than the cost versus the pay off and has been for many years now. That "Limit out" mentality the brother always had to prove the trip was worth it, stopped being my measure of a great trip even back when I guided for steelhead all those years. I even had a (Springtime)1 female per client rule for my trips for many years and never lost a client because of it. BUT what the kill one fish rule does do, is take away trophy opportunities once you kill your 1 fish for the day. It also presents a real temptation to break the law or wantonly waste the resource IMHO. It's just expectation ally wrong in many ways and will lose guides and charters clients. It's a bad idea and it will cost everybody including the DNR license revenue or anything/anybody having to do with fishing and tourism good money.

Captain, Their is a difference between boat fishermen (river charter) and average Joe/JoAnn shore fishermen whereas the shore fishermen may not have the equipment/knowledge to remove hooks properly as not to kill a second fish after he keeps one, so will they (DNR) start ticketing fishermen who are still fishing for steelhead after they have already killed one. eusa_think
Plus what would it do to the river charter businesses'.

Were on the same page Lar. The NRC is making a mistake even bringing it up. It worked for me during the river spring only season because everybody knew going in what to expect and we were always within the limit laws in case of a trophy fish. But it won't be worth it now on the river for guides or Joe Blow, because the Steelhead bag rules on the lake will remain the same. It's not a sound rule based on any proven data, it discriminates and is an overreach by the NRC plain and simple.
